New Garden Bed in Progress
Bed Frame and DirtHere's our new backyard garden bed in progress. So far I've dug out the grass around the location (I didn't do this for the other garden beds and am constantly battling grass), constructed the bed frame pieces, and applied the first coat of some cheap, incredibly red stain/sealant.
The bed is 10' by 2 1/2' and will be automatically watered by a timer/mini-sprinkler system hooked up to a hose spigot. Right now is actually the best time of year in Phoenix to plant vegetables, so this weekend once the bed is all finished I'll buy some tomatoes and other tasty vegetables to fill it with.
When I dug up the grass I loosened the soil quite a bit, which gave me that big pile you see in the foreground. I'll partially fill the bed with this and for the rest use garden soil and a compost/mulch mixture from the hardware store and some compost we made that's close enough to finished.
